Anne Frances Dunbar
Anne Frances Dunbar 86, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Ballston Spa, NY on October 15, 1930, she was the daughter of Daniel and Mary Sweeney.
She was a graduate of Ballston Spa High School and Mildred Elley Business School.
As a youngster, Anne was one of the first employees of Stewart’s in Ballston Spa.
Anne started her career as an Executive Secretary at General Electric. After raising her family, she went back to work at Wood Road Elementary School in Ballston Spa as Executive Secretary to the principal, Rosemary Hunter. Anne’s family was her life and she supported them in every way. She enjoyed taking family vacations and camping. She was proud of her Irish heritage and traveled to Ireland three times. She enjoyed music and singing. Anne was an avid gardener and sold her vegetables to several area hotels and restaurants.
Anne was a devoted communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Ballston Spa. She taught religious education and sang in the Choir. She worked in the library at St. Mary’s School for many years.
She was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Mary Sweeney, her siblings Michael, Genevieve, Peter and Daniel; husband John Dunbar and their daughters Mary and Theresa.
Anne is survived by her children Joseph (Jackie) of Florence, MA, Francis (Sherri) of Black River, John (Lisa) of Ballston Spa, Catherine Clements (Timothy) of Malta, Patricia Dunbar Richmond of Ballston Spa and Paul of Ballston Spa; grandchildren Andrea Clements (fiancé Jon), Alex Clements, Trenton Dunbar (Emily), Hudson Dunbar, Caroline Dunbar and Rachel Richmond; and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30am Friday, February 24 at St. Mary’s Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Saratoga Springs. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s School, 40 Thompson Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
