Edward J. Apholz

Edward J. Apholz, 97, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glenville, New York on May 28, 1919, he was the son of Frank and Alice (Bohensky) Apholz. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Ed was an operating engineer and a member of Local 106 in Albany for 61 years. He worked on the construction of the Northway I87, I88 and many of the local roads, schools, churches and commercial buildings in the area.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Nancy B. (McDonald) Apholz who he married in 1941. They enjoyed 60 happy years together. He was also predeceased by infant daughter, Colleen Apholz, 2 infant sisters, sister Evelyn Parizo, brother Robert Apholz and his parents.

Ed is survived by six children; Kenneth (Victoria Mills) Apholz of Port Orange FL, Raymond Apholz of Corinth, William H Apholz of Ballston Spa, Ronald A. (Sharon) Apholz of Ballston Spa, Eileen Apholz of Johnstown and Suzanne Malesky (Ray Patterson) of Weyers Cave, VA. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ed, also known as Pa and Poppy, will be remembered as a gentle man of great integrity whose generous loving spirit and ready smile made him beloved by so many. He was a master mechanic who could build, repair and operate any machinery or vehicle known to man. His skills, knowledge and ability to work and create with his hands were unmatched. He was called upon so often by so many for help with a project or problem; he never turned down a call for assistance from family, friends and neighbors, day or night. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He enjoyed spending time with them, telling stories and making jokes. He especially loved the little ones, whose pockets he would fill with chocolate candy as he sent them on their way. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held 10am Wednesday, May 31, at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, May 30 from 4pm to 8pm at the funeral home.

The Sisk Family

Thank you for all the wonderful things you gave to this world because without you and those blessings I would not be the mother to our own very special Apholz man. Your great grandson and our family will always be grateful for everything you gave in the world and the great man that you will always be remembered as.

Thoughts are with your family during this difficult time.

Grandpa, you were a wonderful man. I will cherish all the memories we have and hold them close to my heart. I will never forget all the times you were working in your garage, you'd always put a dab of grease on my nose. To this day, whenever Steve works on cars, I always say he smells just like my Grandpa. And I love that smell because it brings back memories of my childhood. You were always so great with my children, always giving them chocolate and cookies. They loved that and I loved seeing the huge smile on your face! I am so lucky to have had you in my life for so long. I hope you are at peace and have reunited with Grandma. I can hear hear already, asking "What took you so long, Ed? "
The world definitely lost a great man, the greatest man I've ever known.
I love you so much and will see you when it's my time. With much love, from your "Eyeballs ", Tina. XOXOXOXO
