Edward J. Donlon


Edward J. Donlon, 86, passed from this world on Friday, March 16, 2018 after battling COPD for over twenty years. He and his twin were born at home on October 11, 1931 in Cohoes, NY to Michael F. and Lena Chaput Donlon.

Ed was educated in Cohoes at St. Agnes Academy and Kevney Memorial Academy, graduating in 1949. One year later he entered the US Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He then began a 42 year career at the GE Silicone Plant in Waterford, retiring in 1997.

On May 12, 1962, Ed married Maryalice Costello, a widow, and became “Daddy” to two little girls. He is survived by his wife Maryalice, stepdaughters Lisa Ruiz-Goubert of Holly Springs, NC and Kristin (Peter Shaw) of Malta; son Eric Donlon of Hunker, PA, daughters Jeannette (Kevin Rathgeber) of Burnt Hills and Alayne (Steven Attardo) of Moreau; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his brother William Donlon and sisters Mary Mann and Elaine Chico.

Ed found much joy in the Adirondacks, fishing and camping. He and his wife Maryalice traveled around the US and Canada thru Elderhostel Programs. In retirement, they settled in Schroon Lake so he could be close to trout streams, but he did drive to Malta twice a week to play poker.

Funeral services will be held 9am Wednesday, March 21 at St. Mary’s Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa, where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Dunning St Cemetery in the Spring. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, March 20 from 4pm to 7pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa.
