James W. Delaney
James W. Delaney, 85, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2017. Born on August 15, 1931, to Henry and Mary Hennessey Delaney, Jim was a graduate of Ballston Spa High School. While in high school, Jim was a member of the 1949-1950 “Iron Five” Basketball team. The team went 18-3 that year and went on to be crowned Saratoga County League Champions. He and his teammates were inducted into the Ballston Spa Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.
After high school Jim joined the Army and served in France during the Korean War. He worked for Grand Union in various management positions and upon retirement he worked for D&A Taxi in Schenectady. Jim was also a member of the Eagle Matt Lee Fire Co #1 where he served in several positions including fire chief. Jim had a huge love of family; calling each night to just say “Hi”.
Jim is survived by his children Debbie Fantroy (Memphis), James Delaney (Robin), Jammi Jesionowski (Jeremy) and Cheryl Turnbull (Steven); his second wife and dear friend Susan Libertucci and adopted daughter Samantha Wronowski; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy Nowhitney Delaney and his siblings Henry “Hank” Delaney, Robert E. Delaney, and Mary Delaney Stewart.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 3 from 12 noon to 1pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A service will be held at 1pm. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ballston Spa.
