Jay Allen Runkel
Jay Allan Runkel, 64, passed away at home on December 9, 2016 after a short illness.
Jay worked for the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services in Albany, N.Y. as Director of Finance before retiring with over 30 years of service. In his early years, Jay enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and camping. After retiring, he was able to travel, delve into genealogy, and play tennis and golf. He also volunteered in the community at the Joan Nicole Prince Home, and at Schenectady City Schools Reading is Fun Program.
He leaves his wife of 41 years, Susan (Henry) Runkel; his daughter Jennifer Runkel (Adam McNeill); his son, Scott Runkel, and two grandchildren. He also leaves behind his dear brothers and their wives: Gregory (Jeanne), Douglas (Mary), Christopher (Elaine), Brian (companion Salina), and Philip (Pam); nine nieces and nephews; his stepmother Linda Runkel, and mother-in-law Erma Henry. Born in Longmont, Colorado, Jay was the son of loving parents James and Phyllis (Schramm) Runkel (both deceased).
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, December 13 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A time for sharing memories will be held at 7pm.
