Linda M. Carpenter

Linda M. Carpenter, 74, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017. Born in Gloversville on January 26, 1942, she was the daughter of Gertrude C. and Richard W. Miller. Linda graduated from Gloversville High School and attended the University of Rochester. She was a National Merit Scholarship Certificate of Award winner.

Linda worked as an Abstractor and Title Searcher, initially for Gifford Abstract, and later for Sneeringer, Monahan, Provost and Redgrave Title Agency in Ballston Spa. For the past 30 years, she resided in Galway and was very active in the community. Linda served as a board member and Treasurer of the Galway Public Library, Treasurer of the Glenville Hills Garden Club, Treasurer and Archives Committee member of the Galway Preservation Society, belonged to the Galway Women’s Club, and sang in the Burnt Hills Oratorio and Saratoga United Methodist Church Chancel Choir.

Linda loved music. Not only did she sing, but she also played the violin, piano and guitar. In addition, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed skiing with her family. She took up rowing in her 50’s and belonged to the Aqueduct Rowing Club. She also loved to travel the world. In recent years, she was fortunate to have visited Thailand, Cambodia, India and Italy. And she cherished her Martini Club and 59-ers gatherings, where she socialized regularly with her very good friends.

Linda was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. Linda is survived by her husband, C. Donald Carpenter; her children Jo Anne (John) Cambruzzi of Lakewood, Colorado and Robert (Christine) Chetwynd of Ballston Spa; sibling R. Bryan Miller of Port Richey, Florida; and her grandchildren and step-children.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 29 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Family and friends may call from 1pm to 2pm on Sunday prior to the service.

Family and friends are invited to pay their last respects at a reception to celebrate her life from 4-6pm on Monday, February 6th at The Cock ‘n Bull, Parkis Mills Road, Galway.

Memorial contributions in memory of Linda may be made to the American Diabetes Association 2017 Saratoga Tour de Cure at for rider Robert Chetwynd. As a juvenile diabetic, Bob is a Red Rider. He will be riding in the Century, a 100 mile bicycle ride, on June 4th to raise money for diabetes research and in honor of his mother, Linda.
