Marzetta Schacher


Surrounded by her loving family, Marzetta Latham Schacher passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs . She was the daughter of Edwin and Irene (Driscall) Latham and wife of the late George P. Schacher, Sr.

Born March 16, 1919 in Binghamton, NY, she attended State Teachers College at Buffalo, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education. In 1942 she married the love of her life. Marzie and George traveled while he served in the US Army, spending several years in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After the war, they settled in Schenectady where they raised a family and were active members of Zion Lutheran Church and later, the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glenville. Together they were founding members of the Rolling Squares and Merry Mixers square dance groups where they made many wonderful friends and memories.

Marzie is survived by her children, Marilyn Fino (James), George Schacher, Jr. (Cherry) and James Schacher (Donna); her grandchildren, Michael Merritt, Tanya Rives, Joshua Fino, Jessi Cashion, Taryn Schacher and Darcy Schacher; and 10 great grandchildren.

Marzie was a woman of incredible grace, determination and above all, love for her family and others. There are no words that can express our love for her and our sorrow at her passing.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
