Neil R. Heffernan


Neil R. Heffernan, 81, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017. Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on April 6, 1935, he was the son of Ambrose and Velma Heffernan. He was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War.

Neil was a machinist at General Electric Co for many years. He was a life member of VFW Post 358 in Ballston Spa and served on the Honor Guard at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ballston Spa.

He was predeceased by his parents, infant son Phillip, and brother Edward. Neil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Duncum Heffernan; sons Michael (Louisa), and David (Trish) all of Ballston Spa; beloved grandchildren Ryan, Jenna and Brad; stepgrandsons Tyler (Kayla) and Cody; sisters Shirley LaFaver of Allentown, Pennsylvania and Debra Frankenfield (Jeff) of Whitehall, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11am Tuesday, February 14 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A committal service with military honors will follow at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road Schuylerville. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 13 from 4pm to 7pm at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on the 3rd floor at Saratoga Hospital and the nurses and aides on 2A at Saratoga Center for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Neil may be made to the Ballston Spa United
Methodist Church, 101 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY 12020 or Salvation Army PO Box 652, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Neil was a great friend and neighbor he was one of a kind, he was always willing to help you out when ever you needed help. I remember going skiing, he would take Bobby Hodgson and myself to Scotch Valley on Wednesdays, when he was working at GE. He will be missed by all that knew him, as a friend living on Arnold Street I have a lot of good memories that I can remember over the years.
