Shirley DeMaria

Shirley M. DeMaria, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, with her loving family by her side.

Shirley was born in Watertown, NY on February 5, 1937. She was the daughter of the late William and Loretta Eagen Lamphere. She graduated from Cape Vincent Central School in 1955. Shirley moved to Ballston Spa in 1972, with her husband and love of her life Nicholas DeMaria.

Shirley began her career at Napa Auto Parts in the warehouse and worked her way up to Jobber Service for 24 ½ years until retiring. She was a member of Clifton Park Elks Lodge 2466 Ladies Auxiliary for 40 years. She was known around the lodge as “Ma”. During her tenure, she held several offices. Shirley was also a member of the Eastern Star for 30 years, holding several offices there as well. She enjoyed doing a lot for and with the veterans, cooking for Friday night dinners and simply helping around the lodge.

Ma had all the answers. If you didn’t know how to do something or how to cook, she was the one to call. She will be dearly missed.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Nicholas, daughter Susan Murray and brother Don Lamphere. Shirley is survived by her son Dannie Bender (Lynn) of Ballston Spa; granddaughters Danielle Brooks (Joe) of Ballston Spa and Sara Bender (Bobby King) of Ballston Spa; grandson Michael Murray of Ballston Spa; great grandson and light of her life Kolby Brooks, and dear friend Dorothy Smith.

Funeral services will be held 10am Tuesday, December 12 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in Ballston Spa Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, December 11 from 5pm to 7pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144 or Wreaths Across America at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org

Shirley was my half-aunt. She was the only surviving child of my grandfather William. When I did not hear from her this Christmas season, I knew something was wrong. My deepest sympathy to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rest in peace Aunt Shirley.
