Walter E. Sauer


Walter E. Sauer, 86, passed away Friday morning, September 29, 2017 with his family by his side. Born on November 22, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Rose (Rapuzzi) Sauer.

Walter was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He graduated from Food Trades School in New York City and worked at Universal Ovens in Westbury, Long Island repairing and servicing industrial bakery ovens. In 1979, he started Sauer Oven Services, Inc. in Brentwood, which is currently operated by his son, John. He and his wife retired 25 years ago to Myrtle Beach where they lived until just recently.

An avid golfer, Walter was a member of the United States Golf Association and knew all of the rules of the game and who was or was not following them. He also was a member of the Myrtle Beach National Golf Club and enjoyed fishing and jazz music.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Rosemary Tedesco. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann Sauer; his children, Walter J. Sauer (Donna) of Brentwood, NY, Daniel Sauer (Jeanette) of Troy, Michigan, Christine Novell (Paul) of Ballston Spa, John Sauer (Michelle) of East Islip, NY, and Thomas Sauer (Lorraine) also of East Islip; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
