Agnes J. Gawrys

Agnes J. Gawrys, 91, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021. One of ten children of Adam and Celia Wojtowecz, she was born in Ballston Spa, N.Y. on October 4, 1929.

In her younger days, Aggie, as she was known to all, enjoyed spending time at Lake Desolation with her sisters, brothers and friends and was known for her excellent renditions of Patsy Cline’s hits. She worked at the Ballston Knitting Mill and the Ballston Spa Dress Shop.

Agnes married Edward Gawrys in 1950. She devoted her life to her husband and raising and caring for her six children, and was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Aggie loved to cook, especially Polish food, and was known for her delicious golumpki and made the world’s best relish. Family and friends were always welcome to Aggie’s Coffee Time. She was a passionate NY Yankee fan, staying up late to watch West Coast games and re-watching some games when she knew the outcome because it was less stressful. And woe to anyone who criticized her Yankees. She also loved watching Jeopardy. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church in Ballston Spa, faithfully attending Sunday mass until she was unable to leave her home.

Agnes was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1996, and her parents and siblings Carrie, Emily, Irv, Chet, Walter, Jeanette, John, Margaret, and Stella.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra (Ralph) Ranellone, Kathleen (Lawrence) Rooney, and her sons, Edward (Michele), Jeffrey (Linda), Andrew (Amy) and Jay (Robin) and her grandchildren, John, Matthew, Kate, Thomas, Brant, Katherine, Kristen, Michael, Hannah, Elizabeth, Andrew, Megan and Grady and her great-grandchildren, Leo, Lucy, Christopher, Matthew, Mackenzie, Smith and Rachel.

Due to Covid-19, there will be no calling hours. When we can safely gather again with family and friends, we will gather at Coffee Time and celebrate Aggie’s life.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 10th at St. Mary’s Church, Ballston Spa. A private burial will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church or Community Emergency Corps.

Dear Debbie and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure she is in a better place but the loss of a parent is difficult at any age.
What a beautiful obituary for a beautiful woman! She has surely made her mark on this earth raising her children and being a part of the lives of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Hope to connect soon by zoom or maybe in person.
