Alison VanDyke

Alison VanDyke passed away at home while surrounded by her family on Friday, June 25, 2021. She was born in Schenectady, NY on June 25, 1962. Alison graduated from Middleburgh High School and continued her education by earning a B.S. degree in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland and a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Springfield College.

Alison spent her professional time as a case manager, helping those with disabilities. In order to know Alison, you must know about her love for the outdoors and being active, her favorite of all being road biking with her friends. Alison’s other passions included hiking with friends and family (only if they could keep up with her), kayaking, cross country skiing and running with her beloved dogs at the Saratoga State Park. When Alison wasn’t outside, she was happiest spending time with her family and friends and reading.

Alison was a devoted wife and mother, who was taken from us far too soon. She leaves behind her beloved husband Bruce, of 28 years and their children, Matthew and Griffen; along with her father, Maurice VanDyke(Karen); her mother, Ilse VanDyke; sisters, Kristal Van Dyke (Brian Trombley), and Tracey Delaney (Mike).

A celebration of life will be planned in the near future with family and friends.

I knew Alison for a few years, as a coworker. In that short amount of time I knew she was a special person and I always loved how she approached life. She was funny and caring. I will miss her. May your family find peace in her memory that lives with all of us that knew her.
God Bless

The Evans Family

Alison was one of my daughter’s (Abby Evans) biggest advocates. She helped our family navigate the complicated world of living with a disability. She was an educator, a supporter, a leader and a friend. Our Abby passed away peacefully early morning 6/26/21 and our family finds comfort believing Alison was there with Abby. We feel so blessed to have had Alison in our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Alison was an absolutely amazing person. She went above and beyond for her job. She was my disabled cousins care manager and she was always there to help with anything we needed. She was such an inspiration. We are so blessed that we had the chance to know her. I have never known someone to give their all and care so much about their work. She will be missed very much. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Alison was an amazing sister in law. She was perfect for my brother, who has had a crush on her since high school. I admired her for so many reasons, from her athleticism to the great mom she was to Matt and Griffen. I couldn’t ever keep up with her in road races, and dared hit the mountain bike trails with her once, only to get my butt seriously kicked. I will never forget her laughing hysterically at me after a stream and some big rocks had their way with me after she sailed through them effortlessly. Alison also hosted an awesome family Thanksgiving every year and loved great conversation at these gatherings. The holiday will never be the same without her. I feel such gratitude for having had her in my life. My heart goes out to Bruce, who was a rock while Al battled her illness. He will forever be my hero.

I was so sad to hear about Alison. We spent so much time together when her boys were younger. We had so many talks together as we were navigating our way through raising our boys. Alison taught me to cross country ski and no, I definitely could never keep up! She and I shared a love for dogs. Chewy and Molly were my buddies! I have SO many fond memories of our time together. Al, you have left us all too soon. I will miss you. Bruce you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to Matt and Griffen. Also my condolences to Krystal and the rest of the family.

Alison was taken from us too, too soon. I will miss her terribly - our friendship, hiking, biking, and kayaking together. We had so many fun times and lots of laughs over the years. Bruce, Matt, and Griffen you have been, and will continue to be, in my thoughts and prayers.
