Bryah Gifford

Bryah Gifford tragically passed away on Thursday, August 12th, he was 42. Bryah was best known for his larger than life personality. He was always positive, upbeat, and motivated, all characteristics that were reflected in the great success of his businesses, Power’s Inn and Pub, and Giffy’s Bar-B-Que. He treated people well and his catch phrase was always “We are Gifford’s, we do the right thing”.

His wife Cara was truly the love of his life, soulmates who shared the same forward thinking vision. She can’t wait to tell their one year old son about his father one day and carry on his legacy.

Bryah was a huge football fan and some of his best memories were playing at Shenendehowa High School and in college for The University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He created lifelong friendships with the team there and the whole football program.

He is survived by his wife Cara Gifford, children Taylor, Tessa, and Alexander Gifford; father Randy Gifford; sisters Charlie Cahill (Jim) and Amy Gotham (Brenden); many nieces, nephews, cousins, employees and friends. The family would like to especially thank his lifelong best friend Ed Dworakowski for being an amazing support system for Bryah his entire life. He was predeceased by his mother Peggy Power Gifford.

Bryah truly was an amazing human being with the biggest heart and really enjoyed every day of his life.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9:30am Thursday, August 19 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in Ballston Spa Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, August 18 from 4pm to 7pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Bryah may be made to the UMass Football Program at

My heartfelt condolences to the Gifford family and all of Bryah's close friends. Even in my limited interactions post-high school, it was evident Bryah only continued to grow in his kindness and helpfulness. A few years ago, we hosted our class reunion at Powers Pub, and I was grateful for the generosity and ease we had in our planning with him and his team. Bryah is an all around great person, and the world is truly better for having him in it. My care to you all. Love, Swati

What a nice nice guy. We met Bryah and Randy at a concession event at Central Park Schenectady, over 20 years ago. We saw them at multiple events and restaurants. We owned Sid's Apple Fritters. It was a shock to us, we still can't believe it. Randy you can be a proud father, raising such a nice man. Our thoughts are with you. Our Condolences are with you.

Coxsackie-Athens NHS

Gifford Family,

The Coxsackie-Athens National Honor Society would like to extend our deepest sympathy for your loss. We have worked with Bryah for nearly a decade through the Giffy's fundraisers. We remember him as an incredibly kind individual with tons of patience. With fundraisers run primarily by students, things did not always go smoothly on our end but Bryah was always accommodating and kind with adjusting to meet our needs. We're thankful to have known him for the time that we did and he will most certainly be missed.

Epitaph - By Merrit Malloy

When I die
Give what's left of me away
To children
And old men that wait to die.

And if you need to cry,
Cry for your brother
Walking the street beside you.
And when you need me,
Put your arms
Around anyone
And give them
What you need to give to me.

I want to leave you something,
Something better
Than words
Or sounds.

Look for me
In the people I've known
Or loved,
And if you cannot give me away,
At least let me live on in your eyes
And not your mind.

You can love me most
By letting
Hands touch hands,
By letting bodies touch bodies,
And by letting go
Of children
That need to be free.

Love doesn't die,
People do.
So, when all that's left of me
Is love

To the Gifford Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I always knew how hard Bryah put into the family business working 18 hour days, 7 days a week. Bryah has always been 110% dedicated person and put in the blood, sweat, and tears, day in and day out doing what he loved. I learned a lot from Bryah working with him years ago. He taught me grit, hard work, and more. It was the Giffy way! He will be missed and I pray for the Gifford family.

I wanted to express my condolences for Bryah’s family, friends, and employees. Praying that God blesses them with comfort during this time.

Soooo sorry.

Dear Randy,

I cannot fathom the loss of Bryah. He really was a fantastic man that you and Peggy raised. Congratulations to you for that wonderful contribution to life. As you know, Amanda and I found him to be strong, outgoing, friendly, and with the biggest heart ever. He certainly put the light into Amanda's eyes, she adored him, and you. She always asked "can we go see Bryah", not Randy, and everytime Bryah was there he always made her "Bryah's Fries". Everytime I would enter Power's Pub he would come out and make room for us and try to visit, but he was always extremely busy. Anyway, I send all my love and condolences to you and your family. I wish I could be there for you and support you through this time of loss, but the expected crowds will keep me away. We really have to get together, at least one last time.

Mark Romani

Dear Family and friends: I was the Food Service Director at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam NY. I am retired now. However, I worked with Bryah and his crew at Giffy's Bar-Que on multiple occassions when they provided our staff with food for our annual picnic; which gave our Food Service Staff a chance to also enjoy the occassion.
I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Bryah because he was an unusual human being who is perfectly described in his obituary which says: "Bryah was best known for his larger than life personality. He was always positive, upbeat, and motivated..."
He was a pleasure to know and work with.
My prayers for your family. He passed too soon. May you be inspired by his life and find peace through your memories of him.

Randy and Gifford Family,
My heartfelt thoughts are with you all. I remember meeting Bryah about 2003 when Giffy's was under construction and we were installing the Muzak system in the restaurant. I loved his energy, warmth, and sincerity. Every interaction I had with him was genuine, enjoyable, and memorable. Heartsick, as I was thinking about the times I had with him today, I quickly heard him tell me to not be heartbroken or sad because he had an awesome life and it was something to be glad about and to celebrate. This brought some comfort and wanted to share it with his family with the hope that it brings some comfort you all of you as well.
With sympathy,
Scott Welton

I don't know where to start or say. Our deepest condolences to Randy, Charlie, and any Power's, and Giffy family/friends. It's unfortunate the chapters in our lives have separated us. Please know my deepest thoughts and prayers are with everyone. I had the pleasure of knowing Bryah from being children living in the same neighborhood. To actually knowing and working for him at the start of Power's. Bryah was a very dedicated hard working man, and loved his children dearly. I will never forget my experiences with Bryah and his family. I'm grateful to have known and worked for such a great man!

We are ao sorry to hear of your loss. We hope all his family and friends can find peace in the memories they shared with Bryah. My fiancé and myself have come into the pub several times for lunch. We got to meet Bryah earlier this year when he showed us the Barn at Powers Pub. Bryah was awesome! So polite and professional! We figured out we’ve got our Irish background in common. The barn is beautiful and we designated our spot to get married at the barn next year 6/18. We will miss getting to work with Bryah but look forward to looking forward to working with his family who will continue his passion of the Pub and Barn. Our prayers are with all of Bryah’s family, friends, and employees.

Godspeed Bryah, Cara and Family! Slán go fóill, Bryah!

Oh all the time that e’er I spent,
I spent it in good company;
And any harm that e’er I’ve done,
I trust it was to none but me;
May those I’ve loved through all the years
Have memories now they’ll e’er recall;
So fill me to the parting glass,
Goodnight, and joy be with you all.
Oh all the comrades that e’er I had,
Are sorry for my going away;
And all the loved ones that e’er I had
Would wish me one more day to stay.
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should leave and you should not,
I’ll gently rise and I’ll softly call
Goodnight, and joy be with you all.

Of all good times that e’er we shared,
I leave to you fond memory;
And for all the friendship that e’er we had
I ask you to remember me;
And when you sit and stories tell,
I’ll be with you and help recall;
So fill to me the parting glass,
God bless, and joy be with you all.

Bryah and I shared our passion for food. I loved watching all of his work on social media and watching him connect with my fellow grads from 97. My thoughts go out to all of his friends and family. He truly was a good man.

I was out of town when I heard the news of Bryah passing, texted to me by one of Bryah's many many loyal patrons at Powers Pub. As I gathered with a few of my college friends ( All-Irishmen ) I did not have the heart to tell them at the time that the Owner of Powers Pub Bryah Gifford had just tragically passed. You see my MUG at Powers, inscribed( The CHI BOYZ ) was my connection to them and a toast whenever needed and made possible through Bryah Gifford and his wonderful Staff. To Bryah's Family my deepest condolences and love to you at this very very sad time. Know that his love for you and his friends was always felt through Bryah being Bryah and the wonderful man that he was. RIP Bryah Gifford.

Jennifer Lescovich

Gifford family, I am so sorry for this tremendous loss. Bryah was an absolutely wonderful person. I am praying for comfort for you all at this most difficult time.
