Daniel Gary Carlton

Daniel Gary Carlton, 49, passed away peacefully due to a heart condition on Thursday, August 2, 2018. Born May 16, 1969 in Albany, he was the son of Bruce and Patricia (Scarpellino) Carlton. Dan was a 1987 graduate of Ballston Spa High School and a 1989 graduate of Dean College, Franklin, MA with a degree in communications.

Dan worked in automotive sales for many years and also enjoyed working in radio. In 1989 he began working at Salisbury Chevrolet in Scotia and continued his career at New Salem Saab, Keyes Automotive Mercedes Benz/Acura, DeNooyer Chevrolet Performance Division/Baldwin Motion, Mangino Chevrolet and, most recently, DePaula Chevrolet.

His entire world revolved around his daughter Giavanna – spending time with her and planning their adventures, as often as possible indulging their shared passion for swimming. Dan was a car enthusiast. He enjoyed ice racing with the Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club and racing at the Albany Saratoga Speedway in Malta in the Sportsman Division. He loved spending time in the woods where he hiked and fished, frequently with his daughter.

Dan loved sports and during his school years, played baseball and wrestled. He also played lacrosse in college. Dan enjoyed Little League and was the first high school student in the area to manage a Little League team. He was raised by his adoptive parents, Bruce and Pat. Later in his life, he worked hard to find his birth mother and succeeded, enjoying a relationship with her, her husband and his half brothers.

He is predeceased by his grandparents, Dudley and Marion Carlton, Andrew and Elizabeth Scarpellino, James Stringer and Jeanne Fennessy Stringer. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Giavanna Elle Spenello-Carlton of Richmondville, NY; his parents, Bruce and Patricia Carlton of Ballston Spa, and Mary Murphy Cooper of Malta; his sister, Roberta Carlton Hefferman (Nathaniel) of Lexington, MA; his brothers, Ryan Murphy (Jill) of Schuylerville and Brendan Murphy (Danielle) of Berne; his nieces and nephews, Liam Andrew Hefferman and Owen Carlton Hefferman, Hunter James Murphy and Brooke Mary Murphy; and his sweetheart, Michelle Simonik of Florida.

A memorial service will be held 10:00am Friday, August 10, 2018 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High St, Ballston Spa. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Malta Ridge Cemetery at a later date.

Dan will always be remembered as a friend to my family.
Whether it be through the racing community, helping us find and purchase vehicles, or listening and giving caring support when needed.
We all have our opinion of Facebook, however, in this case it allowed all of us to see another side of Dan and appreciate what a good and loving father to Giavanna he had become.
His posts also gave us all the opportunity to feel a part of their close and loving relationship.
Our hearts break for this wonderful little girl who lost her daddy.
He will be missed by his family and many friends,
RIP Dan

To Dan's Family
From the moment we met, Dan and I had a connection due to our love of cars and racing. Dan turned out to be a good friend but a better father. My heart breaks for his family but especially his daughter. Dan if there is a better place, you definitely made it there. Godspeed my friend.

Lynne Halpin

Dan, you will be missed forever! May the Lord wrap his arms around you and know he has an Angel in heaven.

I just saw you last month at The Burnt Hills Cafe' when I was working, you stopped in to say," Hello" I will always remember the night you took me to Saratoga Lake, I haven't been there since I was a kid, we had a few beers, took a walk down to the dock. We sat there for hours talking, laughing like we never lost touch. I had the best time being with you, we had so much in common, specially being adopted from the same agency, back in 1969. The story you told me was so intense when you got your records and how you did it!!! It was amazing, you my friend...are loved by all......

I Love You Dan, thank you so much for giving me the pleasure to be in your life .

Love always & forever .....

Danny
We had countless memories from my first car from Saab in 1989. We immediately became close friends. Sharing life’s ups and downs. From trips to California racing in your yellow Vet to watching you ice racing with your mom.

As time moves we still stayed close. Eventually we both becoming parents. I will always remember all your encouragement as I adopted my daughter. I’m still shocked that you raced out of our lives. You will be missed by many my friend but your passion will stay with us all. Drive fast my dearest friend. Keep the pedal to the metal. Rip DC!!!!!!

It was with great shock and sadness I read about Dan's passing. May he rest in peace ... looking over his beautiful Giavanna, who will always know how much she was loved.

I’m going to miss that devilish smile
How when ever I was snacking at my desk you always knew and had to have some too
Your passion for your job was only surpassed by the love for Gia
I watched you grow in ways you never dreamed of. You were always in search of something but wasn’t sure what. It turns out that what it was is the beautiful little red headed angel named Giovanna. It’s like you came to life with an even deeper passion, spending every moment with her just hanging out together no matter what you did those were your happiest moments
I will miss your support and you always being
there and just listening when I needed
Thank you my friend
Sleep peacefully now and keep an eye from above on your little one!!!!!
