Edson Barss


Edson C. Barss, 79, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 2, 1939 in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Ed was a truck driver for Van Raalt Co and Fiberglass Industries for many years. He received the Driver of the Year Award for 3 million miles accident free.

After his retirement, he joined his wife and drove bus for Stanski Transportation and ended his career driving at Upstate. He loved all the children that rode with him.

Ed was an EMT for the Corinth Volunteer Ambulance. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and canoeing. He treasured the time spent with his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Joan, his parents Irving and Anna Barss, his aunt and uncle who raised him Fred and Edna Barss, and his sister Ruth Savanella.

Ed is survived by his children Laura Spotswood (Ray) of Hadley, Darren Barss (Carrie) of Greenfield Center, and Dwight Barss (Maggie) of Corinth; grandchildren Lindsey Feulner, Ryan Feulner, Darren Barss Jr. (Chrissy), Derrick Barss (Stephanie), Kate Barss, Kristen Bills (Matt), Levi Barss (Kareka), Cody Barss (Angelica), Melinda Spotswood, and Theresa Sullivan; great grandchildren Darren Barss III, Madison Barss, Amelia Barss, Vincent Barss, Perrin Bills, soon to be Wendalynn Barss, Paul Moore and Sophia Goucher; brother Thomas Barss; sisters Shirley Wright and Nancy Wagner; brothers in law Tony Izzo (Gay) and James Savanella; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, November 1, from 3pm to 7pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A graveside service will be held 11am Friday, November 2 at St Peter’s Cemetery, West Avenue, Saratoga Springs.

Following the service at the cemetery on Friday, all are invited to a reception at the Porter Corners Fire House, 405 Bockes Road.

Memorial contributions in memory of Ed may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga.

I am so very sorry you have lost Ed. In my 39 years as a member of your family I am very grateful for your Dad. He was always such a wonderful man. I can not imagine the grief you must feel.
