Eugene Allan LaFave

Eugene Allan LaFave, 88, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 following a brief illness. Born November 26, 1929 in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the son of Paul Peter LaFave and Dorothy Wagner LaFave. He resided there until enlisting in the United States Navy on May 18, 1948. He served during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge in April of 1952.

Following his service, Eugene felt a calling to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. To prepare for the ministry, he attended Apostolic Bible Institute of St. Paul, Minnesota where he met and married his wife of 60 years, Billie Marjorie Guinn. Together they served the ministry in Arkansas, Texas and later in Upstate N.Y.

After retiring as a welder and fitter for twenty years at Albany Steel, he worked until age 77 as a registered home health aide.

Eugene and Marjorie were lifetime members of the Free Spirit Fellowship Church of Ballston Spa, N.Y., founded and pastored by his eldest son Reverend T.A. LaFave and his wife Kathryn LaFave. Eugene also enjoyed being an active member of the Saratoga YMCA, attending three days a week. He was lovingly called “Papa” by almost everyone who knew him and he cherished his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren.

Eugene is predeceased by his wife, Billie Marjorie and his youngest son, Adrian Lee LaFave. He is survived by sons Timothy LaFave (Kathryn LaFave ,) Mark LaFave (Patricia LaFave,) grandchildren Rachel Jeffers (Steven Jeffers,) Rhonda Morales (Gregorio Morales,) Travis LaFave (Phoebe LaFave,) Andrea “Andi” LaFave, Matthew LaFave, Luke LaFave, Nathaniel LaFave, Zachary LaFave, and seven great-grandchildren.

Eugene will be greatly missed by his family and friends at Free Spirit Fellowship. His desire to preach and teach the Gospel had a far reaching and lasting effect on everyone he ministered to. His unique legacy is being passed down to his descendants. His memory will be cherished for years to come.

Calling hours are Wednesday, March 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. and the funeral service will be held Thursday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at the Free Spirit Fellowship, 1425 West High St., Ballston Spa, NY. Burial with military honors will follow in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Free Spirit Fellowship.
