Amelia Rice

Amelia Rice, 88, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Witherbee, NY on January 27, 1929, she was the daughter of Crispin and Maria Sierra. She was a graduate of Mineville High School and Albany Business College.

Amelia was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Ballston Spa. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed country music, singing “I was country when country wasn’t cool”. She collected elephants, enjoyed crosswords and loved to laugh.

Her greatest joy was being with her family, whether she was going to Bingo with her sisters, watching Disney movies with her grandson Nathaniel, or going out to dinner with her daughter Amy and grandson Calvin, family was her greatest treasure. Amelia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She was predeceased by her husband James, brothers Vincent and Enrique, parents Crispin and Maria, and parents in law James and Flora. Amelia is survived by her children Amelia Bauer of Ballston Spa, James Rice of Ballston Spa, Crispin Rice (Kathy) of Ballston Lake, Ann Breska of Ballston Spa and adopted daughter Joyce Coker of Ballston Spa; grandchildren Calvin, Nathaniel, James (Ami), Pamela, and Amanda (Andy); great grandchildren Jazlynn, Emma, and Hannah; siblings Beatrice Korszun, Isabel Perez, and Manuella Sears, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 9:30am Tuesday, September 12 at St. Mary’s Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, September 11 from 6pm to 8pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, American Heart Association, St. Mary’s Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
