Donald G. Abeel

Donald G. Abeel 81 of Ballston Spa, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Born in Ballston Lake, February 14, 1931, he was the son of the late William and Hazel Abeel. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Don was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 166 of Schenectady. He was an electrical supervisor at the Saratoga Flat Track for many years, retiring in 1994. After his retirement Don and his wife spent many winters in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Don was a communicant of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Ballston Spa. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Clifton Park Elks Lodge and the Moose Club in Florida. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved spending time at his son’s camp in the Adirondacks.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Marilyn Hoyt, Janet Orologio, and Elizabeth Abeel, and his brothers, William Abeel and James Abeel. Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Snyder Abeel, his children, Deborah J. Marek (William J.) of Ballston Spa, and Jeffrey D. Abeel of Ballston Spa, his grandson, Noah A. Marek of Ballston Spa, his beloved Jack Russell terrier Sara, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1pm Monday, March 26, at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in East Line Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service on Monday from 10:30-12:30pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, 6010 County Farm Road, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
