James W. Bowen, Sr


James W. Bowen, Sr., 87, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018. Born in Ballston Spa, NY on February 20, 1931, he was the son of Walter and Eva Gledhill Bowen.

In the early years, Jim and his dad ran Bud’s Store in Ballston Spa. He later worked at General Electric, Saratoga Vichy and Cottrell Paper Co. He retired from the Saratoga State Park, where he was a Park Police Office and later worked in Park Management.

Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a Hunter Safety Instructor for many years and a lifetime member of the Kayderosseras Fish and Game Club. As a young man he belonged to the Boy Scouts and later became a Boy Scout Leader. He had a passion for cars and repaired and sold many of them. Jim and his wife Gertrude loved vacationing at their favorite spot Old Orchard Beach, Maine, where they had spent their honeymoon.

He was predeceased by his sister Marion Breason, sisters in law Barbara Cullen, Donna Murtlow, JoAnn Baker, Shirley Malik, Suzan Morris, brothers in law Floyd Breason, Dick Emigh, Bill Malik, James Murtlow, Lewis Wormuth and nephew Walter Breason.

Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years Gertrude, and their children James W. Bowen, Jr. (Wendy), Jenelle Bowen (George Lovejoy), Jennifer Isachsen (Bruce), and Jaye Bowen (Steve Becker); grandchildren Kristy Bowen (Kyle Wadsworth), Ryan Isachsen (Cassi), Marisa Bowen, Jamie Quillan (Rob), Evan Isachsen, Caitlin Isachsen and Ashley Butterworth; great grandchildren Tayton Bowen, Nathaniel Isachsen, Maycee Mae Winney, Lincoln Isachsen, Carter Quillan and Devin Rowden. He is also survived by his brothers in law and sisters in law Glenn Cullen, Charles Baker, Jarvis Emigh, Dale Emigh, David Paro, Roger Morris, Bertha Emigh, Doris Emigh, Sandra Wormuth, Margie Klink and Christine Paro, and many beloved nieces and nephews, especially Joelene Pooler.

Funeral services will be held 10am Tuesday, October 16 at Simpson United Methodist Church, 1089 Rock City Road, Rock City Falls. Burial will follow in North Milton Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, October 15 from 4pm to 7pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa.

Memorial contributions in memory of Jim may be made to the Simpson United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank all Jim’s caregivers at Wesley, Saratoga Hospital, Safe Care Transportation, and at his home for their care and compassion, especially Louise Kirkpatrick.
