Jean E. Whelden

Jean E. Whelden passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Gansevoort, NY on March 21, 1931 to Erving and Ethel Peters.

Jean was a homemaker for many years until her husband passed and she started working at O.D. Heck in Schenectady for many years. She also worked as a lunch monitor at the Ballston Spa Middle School. In her younger years Jean and her husband enjoyed square dancing and traveling with their family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, which affectionately called her Great MeeMa. She enjoyed trying her son’s many gourmet dishes, as well as his company. She loved animals and always had a pet dog until she could no longer take care of them. Her daughter had two Shih Tzu which she loved to spend time with.

She enjoyed traveling and many of her favorite memories were cruising with her daughter and friend, a trip with her sister to Hawaii for her nephew’s wedding, going to Montana to see her Grandson, and seeing the Grand Ole Opry.

She was predeceased by her husband William L. Whelden, her son William L. Whelden Jr. and brother Robert Peters. Jean is survived by her children Laura Adams (Doug), Karen Whelden, and Kevin Whelden; grandchildren Jennifer Havalchak (Greg) and Christopher Adams; great granddaughters Isabelle and Alexandra; sister Patricia Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held. Memorial contributions in memory of Jean may be made to the American Heart Association.
