John P. Bennison

John P. Bennison passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the age of 92. He was born in Frankfort, NY, the fifth son of Harold and Hazel (Gunson) Bennison on November 11, 1928. Jack was a graduate of St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam and Niagara University in Niagara Falls where he received a Bachelor of Science degree and was a member of the golf team.

Following his four older brothers who all served during World War II and his father who received a Purple Heart in World War I, Jack enlisted in the US Marine Corps upon graduation from high school and was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict.

After his proud military service and upon graduation from Niagara University, he became a successful sales agent with NY Life Insurance Co in the Niagara Falls office. After ten years, he joined the professional service of the Boy Scouts of America. His career of twenty-five years took him to Boy Scout Councils in Chautauqua, Albany and Ithaca, NY as well as Newark, NJ. Upon retirement, he relocated to Ballston Spa, NY. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and also volunteered for more than ten years delivering Meals on Wheels.

Jack is predeceased by his wife Barbara Ann Roulley Bennison, four brothers William, Robert, Richard, and Charles, and his sister Anne. He is survived by his sons William Bennison (Patricia) of Ballston Spa and Charles Bennison (JoAnn) of Castleton; sister Jane Staber (Donald) of Malta; grandchildren Shelley Palmer of Castleton and Kevin Bennison of Williamstown, Massachusetts; and great grandchildren Vivienne and Andrew Palmer.

On a later date, a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Ballston Spa and he will be buried with military honors at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

The family gratefully thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff on C3 at Saratoga Hospital for their care, assistance and dedication.
