Kathleen Hewitt

Kathleen (Ledermiller) Hewitt, 70, of Amsterdam, NY passed away on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2021. Born on July 29, 1950, in Amsterdam, NY she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Kathleen (Whelly) Ledermiller.

Kathleen (known to her friends and family as Kathy or Kate) attended Perth Central School and graduated from Amsterdam High School. She graduated from SUNY Brockport, and continued to reside in Rochester, NY for several years. She retired from Verizon after 25 years of employment, where she had many friends. After her retirement, she worked at The Amsterdam Library.

Kathleen loved to read, garden, bake, and cook. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and having her grandchildren over on weekends. She loved the ocean, going to the lake in the summer, and attending community events. Kathy enjoyed concerts and singing along to her favorite songs. She had a light, nurturing spirit and a beautiful smile that stayed with her until the end.

Kathy is survived by her daughter Tara (Praveen) Tamvada; grandchildren, Mason Talarico, Maya Tamvada, and Zoe Tamvada; and other family and friends. Kathy is predeceased by her husband John W. Hewitt, Jr; her parents Ernest and Kathleen; and her sister, Sharon Madej.

In accordance with Kathy’s wishes, there will be no formal services. A memorial contribution in honor of Kathleen may be made to The Amsterdam Free Library, 28 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
