Lois W. Corey


Lois W. Corey 96, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021. Lois was a native and longtime resident of Victor, NY. Recently, she had lived in Ballston Spa, NY with her daughter Deborah’s family. She was the daughter of Earl and Elsie Washburn of Victor. She graduated from Victor High School where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Leonard S. Corey.

After high school in response to WWII, she enrolled in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps at Keuka College where she received her RN Degree. She used her training to work with area physicians, she also worked in several area hospitals before becoming a school nurse at Victor Central School, a position she held until retirement. In 1985, Lois and Leonard were named Town of Victor Citizens of the Year. Leonard predeceased her in 1986 after 39 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by a sister Betty Toomey, brother Lou Washburn, and grandson Jon Straight.

Lois is survived by her four children and their spouses, Cathy C. and John Oates of Hamilton, NY, Sue C. and Bob Doran of Greensboro, NC, Bruce and Paula Corey of Wolcott, NY and Deborah C. and Richard Straight of Ballston Spa, NY. She also leaves eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Lois lived a life of caring for others. She will be remembered for being always available with her kind and gentle ways and efficient manner. She was there to heal and serve her church, Eastern Star, family and friends.

A memorial service will be held 10am on Thursday, January 21 at Northway Church, 770 Pierce Road, Clifton Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Lois may be made to The First Presbyterian Church, Victor, NY or Victor-Farmington Ambulance Corp, in memory of Lois and Leonard, founding members.
