Reese Meadow Johnson

Reese Meadow Johnson, 14, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous two year battle with cancer and leukemia.

A ninth grade student at Ballston Spa High School, Reese enjoyed social networking, SpongeBob, Teen Wolf and Vampire Diaries. She loved to swim in her grandparent’s pool and play with her cat Dakota Rose.

Reese was a loving, caring, compassionate child with a contagious laugh and outgoing personality. She touched everyone she met and brought love and joy to all. She lived life to the fullest in the short time she was given.

Reese is survived by her parents, who were her best friends, Joseph and Shannon Johnson; grandparents Ruthanne and Paul Kilburn, and David Johnson; uncle Shane “Buzz Buzz” Kilburn; aunt Jessica “Jess Jess” Maynard; uncle Heath “Puggy” and aunt Cheryl Johnson; special cousins Nadia Robles and Cassandra Palso; “dog cousin” Mulligan; and her large extended family of cousins, great aunts and great uncles. She was predeceased by her grandmother Sandra Johnson.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 25, from 2pm to 6pm at the Ballston Spa United Methodist Church, 101 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. A service will follow at 6pm.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Albany Medical Center, Reese’s doctors, nurses and caregivers for the compassion and love given to Reese throughout her illness.

Dear Reese,
Shannon, Joe, The Kilburns, The Johnson's

I have learned a lot of things in a short amount of time. The most important to me is, I learned I don't know what stress is. From your experience you all have inspired me in so many ways. Don't sweat the small stuff in life, make every day your best day, and never give up. You have changed my outlook on life in so many ways and I thank you for that.

May God

Grant you always...
Sunbeam to warm you,
A moonbeam to charm you,
A sheltering Angel
So nothing can harm you.
Laughter to cheer you
Faithful friends near you.
And when ever you pray,
Heaven to hear you.

An IRISH Blessing

On Angels Wings...
On Angel's Wings you were taken away
But in our hearts you will always stay...
We will hear your whisper in the tallest trees
Hear your laughter and feel your love in the gentle breeze...
And when we find we miss you most
Inside our beautiful memories
We will hold you close...
You are an Angel watching over us
With the comfort and blessings you bring...
You embrace our hearts and hold it close
Forever you are on Angel's wings.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, please accept our heartfelt sympathies on the passing of your beautiful, sweet Angel. Our prayers are with you and your family.

My heart goes out to you all. I have followed Reese's journey from the beginning. Reese put up a long and hard fought battle. She has been an inspiration to each and everyone that has been following her up's and down's the whole time. I only wish I could take away some of the pain you are all feeling so I pray God will give you comfort. You are an amazing family with an amazing girl. I am unable to attend the services, as I am presently out of state but please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey Reese, I know you're up there in heaven, looking down at us. I got to say goodbye to you but I don't feel like I did enough. I know your parents are strong as heck and will always be there for you. It's crazy I can't believe you're gone, I sit here and think about the good times we had. Like jump roping at 3am with the rope being made of tape and barely getting over twice, and your mom having no confidence in me but she was right she said I'd get 1.5 jumps. I never really had a purpose in life, always was told what to do and where to go, what profession to follow. I never made my own decisions, I don't know if I was afraid or just didn't care about anything. When I started at Albany Med in April of 2014, I didn't know what that held for me, I didn't know that taking care of you guys was going to change my life. I didn't know that it was going to stick with me and want me to become the best pediatric oncologist that I can possibly become. You are the reason I'm going to do this, I want to help find the cure for cancer because I can't have another kid die before their parents or at anytime, it shouldn't happen. I am going to work as hard as I can because I want people to never forget you, and the bravery you had and the strength you had. I'm going to miss you Reese puffs, but I know you'll always have our backs. I won't forget yah pal, and I sure as hell am not going to give up. Rest in peace Reese. Gone to soon

First, I want to say thank you so, so very much to Shannon and Joe, for giving us all the gift of Reese Meadow. You are the most inspirational and loving parents I have ever seen. Reese's pictures have been, and will always be, in my classroom as a reminder of her life and love. I cherish the memories of Reese as a hardworking student, as a silly and lovely girl, and as a wise beyond her years friend. Her light will shine brighter beyond this world; we will never forget her, never stop talking about her, and never stop loving her. God Bless all in her family at this time, and her dearest friends as well. Reese will inspire us all forever. I will miss her so very much.

I remember you coming to Summer Camp with Sadia... Your great personality made everybodies day.... It is really sad to hear that you were sick like that at 14 years old... No one your age should have to be in that much pain, I am happy that you are not suffering and in pain anymore. I cried for you when I saw Sadia's post and her post that you had passed... R.I.P. I LOVE YOU <3. Even though it's been years since we've seen each other.

Although I never had the opportunity to meet Reese, I felt like I knew her! I have several friends who know you Shannon and have had an opportunity to meet Reese and get to know her! Jaime Franco, Josephina, Billie Helman, Jamie Newton and of course her little buddy Rafa! I followed your page about Reese! I know there are no words to say that can take your pain away! I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet baby girl! She was a true Warrior Princess! She was beautiful and had a beautiful smile! Through all her pain she always found a way to smile! No child should ever have to deal with what she went through! No parent should ever have to suffer the heartache of losing a child! I unfortunately know too many children who have earned their wings far too soon! Know your beautiful angel is not alone and I'm sure she is making those in heaven smile and laugh! She will forever watch over her Mom and Dad! RIP WARRIOR PRINCESS REESE!

Cathy Young

In this sorrowful time, I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences.
