To the entire Croteau Family, we are deeply sorry to learn of Rhett's passing. He was a wonderful man. My husband and I were fortunate to have met him through his business and spent years enjoying his always helpful, always fun presence. This summer, shortly after his return from down south,I had the pleasure of running into him in the grocery store. I introduced him to my daughter who was new to driving. We talked for a long time about your family, his own granddaughter that had started driving recently and how proud he was that he was handing the business down to the next generation. May you and your family treasure the memories that he has given you, while the rest of us remember his impact on our lives. Rhett was a great man!

David Sherwood

Very sorry for your loss Bev and the entire family. Rhett was always funny, caring, and compassionate. Luckily for me I was able to see and speak with him earlier this year when we crossed paths in Lake George. He bestowed more wisdom on me that day as he always did when we would see each other. He couldn’t help but be nice. I will miss the idea of running into him in our work trucks but, I’m sure he’s already pulled over on his next journey to help someone and that gives me great piece of mind. Glad to have the memories.

Rhett ALWAYS brightened any place he was at. He often announced his presence loudly but with humor and humility. He was someone you could trust regardless whatever the circumstance was. If intelligence were measured by wit, Rhett would be at the head of the class. He held strong to his personal beliefs but never took personal offense were you to disagree with him. He was a incredibly hard worker with a giant heart. Malta is missing a pillar!

Tom & Donna Parent

Rhett, you will be sorely missed by our family, as well as many people who knew they could rely on Rhett Croteau to take care of their automobiles with integrity and knowledge. You always brightened our day when we were at your shop for service. To Rhett's family, you can be very proud of the man many called a friend. Our sincere condolences to all who loved him.

Jim & Debbie Baker

Rhett was not only a friend, he was a GREAT friend. As others say, he was always there to help, tell a story, and most of all, go further than anyone else to show his friendship. Hard to believe he's gone. From this life, but not from our hearts. The world is worse off without him.

Fay (Moak) DeTraglia

Sorry I’ll be out of town Saturday. My condolences to the Croteau family. Rhett was always there for me with a joke and a grin. Several times he winched my Troop car out of places I shouldn’t have tried to park it in. He was a great man and a good friend

Mark and Sandy Hammond

Rhett always seemed to have a smile on his face! Sometimes because he was busting on you (as he did with me ALWAYS), maybe because he had just told you one his life experiences, maybe a joke, or maybe just because he was being Rhett! I've known him for many years. I've laughed with him, fought fires with him, had a few beers with him, and yes..even disagreed at times with him. That's what friends experience when they really are friends. I'm proud to be able to say that you were my friend Rhett! You are undoubtedly going to be missed by many, but you have certainly left those of us who knew you, with many good memories. For now I will say goodbye to you....but I prefer to say, see you again! Rest easy my friend!

Many have had the privilege of knowing you for as little as a few minutes and can say because of that meeting you touched their life and made it a little better, for us that have had the honor of 50 plus years we can only say " Thanks for the memories" I have known hundreds of people in my life and can say you have had a very special place in my life's journey, up near the top. Later this afternoon I'll have the privilege of saying a few words at the church, I'll try not to cry, you have always been special to Donna and I. Love ya brother, see you later.

James & Donna Smith

Goodbye my dearest friend!

Our deepest sympathies to Rhett’s family.

A friendship that started on a September day in 1963 when we both entered CBA in the seventh grade and continued over many years with both of us living in Malta and belonging to Malta Ridge.

A return trip home always included a stop at Croteau’s Service Center to be greeted with a big smile and a hardy handshake and a brotherly hug.

Any trip home will now have a empty void that cannot be filled.

You will be greatly missed. God Bless You.

Paula Ives

What a sad thing! He was always a pleasure to see when you took your car to his garage! Always smiling! Great soul! RIP

Stan D

A man well liked and respected in our community, a hard working businessman and serving the community as a firefighter. Always a good story, a joke and a laugh at the garage. Lunch time you could find Rhett gathered with friends chatting away, sharing stories, perhaps scooping some lunch out of the crock pot. Memories that will forever be held in ones heart and shared during a casual passing with friends that knew Rhett.

Rest in Peace and may you enjoy your new life.

I'm sad to have to write this. Rhett was a one of a kind, all around socialite. He always had a minute to say hi, a wink, a smile....the whole time he had that little twinkle in his eye. I'm going to miss our catch up time. I'd run into him about once a year...and usually got the full rundown.
My condolences to his family. Knowing how many people who have shared a story or just sent an offer of sympathy, I can only imagine how big this loss is to you all. We, as a community, mourn with you.
Peace to you all.

We are half a world away right now in Asia and I’m sorry we can’t pay our respects to you in person Bev, David and family.

Any time we came home to Ballston Spa from some far off exotic destination, we always took a few minutes to drop into say hello to our friend Rhett. He was part of our ritual, when we would come home to see friends and family. He should have been an honorary mayor of Malta. :) He always kept us up to date on the on-going’s of saratoga county, loved his work as a firefighter, loved his family and he enjoyed helping people at the most basic levels. He was well respected and built a strong bond with many of the blue-line figures and their family’s within our community.

During our last visit home, I must have bumped into Rhett a half dozen times around town and your family assisted us with preparations for the sale of our car, before we departed for Asia. Thank you again… Always smiling, cracking jokes, beeping his horn as he drove by and helping people. That was Rhett. We will miss him greatly and I’m certain St Peter gave his wings a coyote engine with NOS. ;)

Till we meet again.

A great humanitarian who will be deeply missed. Rhett was the ultimate "good guy" who could find a bright spot in even the darkest situation. God has a special spot planned for him, most likely at the entrance to heaven as a Greeter! May our Lord hold you, Bev, and your family in His loving arms and give your hearts peace in this difficult time.

Paula and Mark Cheney

So sorry, he will be missed, I will miss his big bear hug and smile. We love him and you Bev.
