Russell Sparks

Russell Sparks, 62 passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018. Born in Schenectady, NY on August 8, 1956, he was the son of Stanley and Barbara Sparks.

Russell and his wife Jeanette, along with his brother Dave and sister-in-law Vickie, owned and operated Sparks Excavating in Middle Grove for 30 years. Most recently he was employed by Gannon Construction Services in Albany. He was a man dedicated to his work, his family and friends.

A former motorcycle racing champion, he enjoyed riding his Harley and was an avid Nascar fan. Russell’s sister-in-law Terri was his Nascar buddy and they would often spend Sunday afternoons watching the races together. His little sister Leslie and her husband Denny were two of his favorite people; he adored Leslie, they were lucky to have shared such a special brother-sister bond. His nephew Greg and niece Sarah looked up to him as a father-figure, often visiting, getting advice and sharing a laugh. Russ enjoyed watching his nephew Cory race sprint cars. He was so proud of all of them. Russell and his wife Jeanette had been by each other’s side for more than 40 years. Best friends and constant companions, they shared a lifetime of memories, love and special moments.

To his friends, Russell was everyone’s buddy. Loyal and caring with a great sense of humor, always there to lend a hand at a moment’s notice. When not with family or friends, he could always be found in the company of his three beloved dogs, Bingo, Bizzy and Bailee, who brought such joy to every day.

Russell was predeceased by his parents Barbara Jean and Stanley Sparks, and his sister Barbara Guy.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years Jeanette; brother Dave Sparks (Vickie), sister Leslie Mycek (Denny); sister in law Terri Ballard; nieces and nephews Greg Gero (Megan), Cory Sparks (Ashley), Sarah Ballard, Elise Gregory and Michael Guy; great niece and great nephew Emmy and Benson; uncle John Sparks (Cheryl), cousin John (JR) Sparks; and best friends Steve Nicoll and George Dimick.

A celebration of his life will be held on a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Russell may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
