Virginia C. Griffin

Virginia C. (Stebel) Griffin, 82, of Ballston Spa, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 after a period of declining health.

Virginia was born on August 23, 1929 in Flushing, NY to Charles and Augusta (Spilker) Stebel. After graduating from local schools, she attended the University of New Haven and began a career working for McCann Erikson Advertising Agency. She moved to Saratoga Springs, married Robert W. Griffin, and settled in Ballston Spa where she would live for the next 50 years.

Virginia had a career spanning many professions. With a friend, she started an interior decorating business, and later worked for Funston Lumber as an office manager until their closing. She began a full-time career as a teaching assistant at Milton Terrace School and took great pride in helping children to learn. She retired from the Ballston Spa School District in 1995. Virginia was a communicant of St Mary’s Church in Ballston Spa.

In addition to caring for her family, Virginia was active in her community. She served on the Ballston Spa Planning Board and was secretary of the Ballston Spa Youth Recreation Commission.

Virginia is survived by her devoted husband Robert, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage on October 13, 2011, her son, John R. Rung and his wife, Rosemarie (Kaminiski) of Merrimack, NH, 3 grandchildren, Alexandra Rung and her fiancé, Thomas LaSala of Manchester, NH, Jonathan Rung, and Christopher Rung of Merrimack, NH, great grandson, Thomas R. LaSala of Manchester, NH, sister, Lorraine Pettinger of Lakeland, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10:30am Thursday, April 12, at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Town of Saratoga. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4-8pm Wednesday, at Armer Funeral Home, Inc 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Virginia’s family expresses its profound gratitude to the staff of Saratoga Hospital, Maplewood Manor, and to Dr. Desmond DelGiacco for their compassionate and professional care.
