William J. Downs

Goodbye my friends and family. I was born in Schenectady to loving parents John and Adele Downs in 1949. My baby sister came four years later. I started school at St Paul’s, K-1st grade, when my parents made the wonderful move to Ballston Spa. Thru the years not being the best student, but loved going to school. That’s where my friends were and we could play sports.

After graduation went to work for Grand Union Co for 34 years, Parts Unlimited for 13 years and many part time jobs, the best being D-Line Pub for 10 years. As my father once said “We didn’t make a lot of money but we have a hell of a lot of friends.” Better than money, lots of partying in those years.

In the 80’s met a wonderful woman Dotty Michelin and her children, 1990 got married and led a terrific life until 2014 when she passed. In life sometimes you get lucky I reconnected with my dear friend Jill Braim, and we are having a great life together. She is my hero.

I am survived by my loving and constant companion Jill Braim.; my children Michael, Robert (Trudi), Peter (Gina) and son in law Gregg. Sad goodbye to my grandkids Olivia, Sam, Helen, Ann, Genevieve, and Thomas. Goodbye to my sister Mary Ellen, goodbye to my aunt Jeanne and my many cousins, nieces, nephews, and my many forever friends. A big thank you to my Ballston Spa Elks Lodge #2619 and all my friends there, to Mygym family, my little brother Fuzzy, to all my D-Line friends, and thanks to Mike Aubin and Chair #4. A special thanks to the Village of Ballston Spa what a great place to grow up and old.

After the service at Armer’s go to the Elks, have a drink, laugh, smile, hug one another, maybe even tell a story or two. Remember I loved you all and hopefully grew up to be the person you could always count on and that I tried my very best to be a good person and friend. I had quite the life.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 3pm to 5pm on Friday, October 15 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Funeral services will be held 9am Saturday, October 16 at the Columbarium in the Ballston Spa Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the Ballston Spa Men’s Veteran Home, 36 Church Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY 12020 or Ballston Spa Elks #2619 Food Pantry Program, 10 Hamilton Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020

Bill, I haven't seen you to talk to you in many years where we use to have conversations at Monoco's Bar, you were always a well respected guy. Please rest in peace

Have and will always think of you with fondness. I cherish the memories of holiday dinners, playing chicken at the village beach, you sneaking us free ice cream cones from Christie's and so many other good times. Cheers to a life well lived! - Cousin Bryant and Barb.

“Uncle” Bill, so many laughs, fun times and a life time of memories will now be our comfort. You were a wonderful friend to us and one we always considered family. You were a bright spot in our lives when we needed it the most and we are so very thankful. I will always be your “roomie”, you will always be a brother to Ed and beloved Godfather to Lindsay. You will be missed so much by everyone who was fortunate enough to know you. You knew how much you were loved. Today and always in our hearts is where you will be. We love you.

Frank Cinella

Billy, may you rest in piece my friend, I will always cherish the "road trips" you would call it when we would travel to away football games, and then on the way back home we would stop at a watering hole. You were always a pleasure to be around, that smile from ear to ear, and always making me laugh with your great sense of humor, you will be missed my friend!! My condolences to your family and many friends! Frank Cinella

Heaven gained a special kind of angel. Though I haven't been a part of your life for many years, I look back on those years that I was with a sweet smile, Bill. I will always remember your laughter, your kindness, your incredible bear hugs and your stories. I loved hanging out with you at the D-Line and sitting around the dinner table laughing. Your love for others was as big as this world and I am especially thankful for the love and friendship you had with my brother Gregg. Rest in peace my friend.

I just want to say how sad I am that you're gone. You were a true Mentor to me as a young man. You Coached me for three year's in Pop Warner football. You taught me how to be a man at a very young age. You were very rough on all us boy's, but we Respected and Loved you so much! You would always say we may not be the best team, but we'll be the best conditioned! I remember you playing Semi- Pro at Guard for the Glens falls Green Jackets, and you had a bum knee. When we ran sprints you would say if anyone of you little Bastards lose to me you're running laps! You would beat Almost half the team. Year's later i would see you at the Gym, and would always refer to you as Mr.Downs. You would get upset, and say no Sammy Boy you call me Billy. Well I never did, and always called you Mr.Downs. Everytime I did you would put your arms around me, and say that's my boy. I could feel the love when we embraced. You were a Great friend to my Father, and so many more people. If you had Mr. Downs as a friend you had a TRUE FRIEND! I will miss you so much, but I will never forget you. May you RIP, and I Love you Mr. Downs.
Your "Boy" Sammy, the Bammer.
